Love it or Loathe it, you can’t ignore it. Yes, Big Brother is back on our screens for the final time. No matter whether you are an addict or a critic you cannot deny that it is a TV phenomenon that has affected all our lives.
Back in 2000 when BB began reality TV was virtually unheard of and the idea of viewers watching a bunch of “ordinary” people living together in a house for a couple of hours a night seemed ridiculous. Fast forward 10 years and we now have live coverage of the house almost 24 hours a day, websites, blogs, a behind the scenes show and a chat show. What did we ever find to do in the summer before Davina came along?
Who is she?
Just climbing those stairs and entering through the sliding doors is almost enough to guarantee a front cover on Heat and at least a week’s media coverage for the contestants. We have a new generation of “celebrities” whose only claim to fame is that they spent a couple of weeks living their life on TV.
But you have to feel some sympathy for the contestants, don’t you? How many of us would fare so well having to live in close proximity to a dozen people, who are usually picked to be antagonistic, and being broadcast to the nation while you eat, sleep and go about your daily business! Then they’re suddenly thrust into a pantomime of booing and jeering and facing a live interview of national TV. Not an ordeal many of us would wish to face, I think.

BB7 Housemates wore a selection of Dancemania Dance clothes
Here at Dancemania we can’t get enough of Big Brother and we will be sad when the doors close for the final time. We have been supplying dance clothing and fitness outfits to the BB team and our favourite was BB7 when Nikki, Pete and the others had to dance in Dancemania dancewear and legwarmers and we think they looked great, even if the legwarmers all ended up as wrist warmers!
